I like the concept here, but the characters don't seem to fit the background, like the two are made with different art styles.

I think some artists have certain styles or techniques when it comes to approaching things that can be vastly different. The focal point is clearly the characters as opposed to the bg and I think they fit wonderfully :)

OP is right, they stand out too much and it's because of the one chars unnatural colors. its extremely hard for any artist to render a 'sparkledog' in a style in a realistic scene/nature and make it look 'normal'
