Slippy down planetside? What is this madness you speak of?!
Honestly though that does make a fair bit of sense, both in universe and out. In universe Fox and crew probably would want to make their base of operations in Thorntail Hollow a bit more secure, something that would require a visit from their resident engineer. Story wise it gives Slippy a chance to actually DO SOMETHING, er besides give the occasional tech update and act as a talking head. (Seriously maybe that's why it was called Starfox Adventures, because only Fox was having the adventure!)
