At least your car was salvageable yes? Mine, I had a pos 85 honda civic and three days after I got it insured the bloody thing has a wiring problem and caught the engine aflame. Warped the block, consumed all tubing and wires. Thankfully no one was hurt and it happened right in front of the fire dept ^^;
Run it in the driveway until the enguine warms up, then watch for leaks while it's still running. It an area looks suspicious but you can't see much, put a clean piece of paper in front of it for a few minutes and have someone rev the engine. If there is a small leak, the increase in oil pressure due to higher RPMs will cause the oil to spray onto the paper, showing you where your problem is. Pray it's a gasket, and not a head or block.
quick question. What is that... Thing you blocked off with a cap? On the valve cover, a little to the left of and below the oil cap.
Is that supposed to be a breather? PCV?
If that were the case, that would very easily account for your oil everywhere.
I'm not overly familiar with the miata motor, so I don't recognize what that is you blocked off.

Shit, you too man? My bitch's leaked oil since I had a second engine dropped in about five years ago; after going over it four or five times my mechanics found there's a tiny little crack in the block. She needs an ignition module right now so she's off the road until I save the cash to get her done, but I'm tempted to just save up the extra $500 and get a third engine in there so I don't have to deal with the leak anymore.
Of course, DESPITE my EXPLAINING to a second mechanic that there's a crack in it, he went ahead and redid the head gasket and everything else under the sun... $1000 later (OUCH) and it still leaks. Moral: don't bring your goddamn car to Goodyear even if it IS an emergency.

Yeah, it’s a base spec 1.3litre 1989 Laser L. I didn’t even have a radio when I got it. Apart from the oil leak it’s immaculate. We replaced its valve cover gasket a while back, it stopped leaking for about five days then started again.
Miatas are cool I see them frequently around here, they’re badged as MX5s here.
