Long ago in ancient China, a young dragon sought to bring an end to a truly violent warlord and his army, who had been tormenting the south for years. When they had set up camp in a valley, the young dragon saw his chance, and asked the older dragon who embodied a nearby river to divert himself, in order to drown them out. But when this elder refused, the young dragon took action himself. He dealt his elder a grevious wound by surprise, and shifted his river-form into the valley. Taken by surprise, the warlord and his whole army were drowned, saving the land.

However, for his crime the young dragon was brought in chains before the Celestial Court, where the Jade Emperor decreed that he would be cursed, his power sealed and form twisted until he has truly repented for his crime of using one of his kind for murder. So it was he was twisted into his gargoyle-like present shape, and sent off to a far-distant land beyond the eastern horizon. There he resided with Master Tendou, the Court's representative in this different landmass, and has remained so since, always training and striving to atone for his sin.
