Well the baseball theme of it applies rather more to the laughing man than catcher in the rye. But you can't help to think there's some kind of analogy between playing baseball in a field of rye and catching children playing before they fall of a cliff. I don't know exactly, my mind associates things in a backwards kind of way some times. =)
