Spontoon: Meet Senator 'Marryin' Sam' Brunswick...
...and his charming bride, Lulubelle Mae, late of Springdale, Arkansas, now (circa 1937) the American ambassador to the Spontoon Islands.
Happily married for decades, Sam and Lu love nothing better than to pass the joys of matrimony onto others, hence his sobriquet. They can be seen in 'The I Do's Of March' by
eocostello and Yr. Humble Servant.
Sam and Lulubelle actually originated as near-roadkill. See, I was driving home to Springdale via back roads one warm summer afternoon a year or so back, and braked in time to avoid squishing a nine-banded armadillo* who was casually toddling across the road. In turn, this got me cheerfully speculating on the potential for an armadillo as a pet. I figured I could train him to roll up into a ball on cue, carry him around in a bowling ball bag and call him "Brunswick".
When I mentioned this concept on AIM with Eric and
walt46, it wasn't long before the Brunswicks were created and duly added to the story...

*Yeah, I associate armadillos with the Southwest desert, too. But apparently, they like the Ozarks just swell!

There was I, waiting at the church,
Waiting at the church,
Waiting at the church;
When I found he'd left me in the lurch,
Lor, how it did upset me!
All at once, he sent me round a note
Here's the very note,
This is what he wrote:
"Can't get away to marry you today,
My wife, won't let me!"
