Unarmed humans are weak. Take away weapons and technology and they are easy meat. Obviously armed humans are another matter but in this case we're talking about a simple settler who has no armor and minimal weapons. Yao-stalkers are smart enough to preferentially target unarmed people and if an 800-pound bear snake gets ahold of even a strong unarmed man he ends up as a bulge. 83
