My theory:
Double layer of makeup/prosthetics. Mom throws big hissy fit about "real face", 'Felicity' begins bawling and crying and peels off the first layer of Fel/feline face revealing a second layer of thin latex prosthetics that looks like wrecked/burned human face underneath, throws huge sadness/drama that thanks to stupid demanding mother she now can't be seen as beautiful at her own wedding and it's all ruined now, then she runs off backstage. Now whole family shames mom, and now Fel and Al have mom in a eternal guilt trip, no more need to attend family gatherings, Felicity has legit reason to never want to see mom/family again for her embarrassment at being forced to reveal her "damaged" face in public at her own wedding.
