This is a self portrait I made a while ago with a very important message. Too often we say yes to things we aren’t actually 100% on board with. The reasons vary: to avoid confrontation, to “make thigs easier,” to think we’re doing a favor to others. If you are ever uncomfortable in a situation, you are always allowed to say no. It can be hard sometimes. We tend to think that saying now will hurt someone else. It’s true, sometimes it does, but you don’t always have to hurt yourself just to keep from temporarily inconveniencing others. Listen to your conscience, trust your gut, and be happy.

An important lesson. I didn't learn this in my childhood and youth and always said yes to anything anyone wanted me to do, no matter how I felt about it. I trusted in others noticing when I felt uncomfortable and in them stopping to bother me. It never worked out. Learning to say "no" can indeed be hard, but it's important to master it. When I finally did it, people around me were surprised. Now I feel comfortable to say "no" or "yes" to whatever I feel like saying "no" or "yes" to. And people accept that. That wasn't always the case. But it is so now. So, indeed, a very important lesson!
