The organic curves combined with the luminescence of sun through snow, sharp reflections and halos give this image a very surreal feeling. The small spot of forest at the top left anchors it well. I am amazed that you warm and cool colors so well in this setting. The juxtaposition of warm colors with an icy subject just lends more to the aura of the surreal.
I would have been tempted to lower the horizon in your place, but looking at the finished piece, think it would have been a mistake.

Probably took about 15-20 pics of this formation with the camera right down on the 'ground'. Guess-work! "Bob" bless digital! The light shines through because well, it's open underneath. Really a bizarre formation I'd never seen before. Things you find tramping on the ice.
