An idea I've been toying with near the end of 2018. Might try and pick up on it later on.

No one truly knows where this statue came from, when it was made or by who, but they know it by its name, which has been carried over for thousands of years. They will tell you that whomsoever touches 'The Changer' will instantly be changed into something else. Usually it's another species - mammal, bird, reptile or fish - and the only way to be turned back is to continue touching the statue until one returns to one's original form. Like a slot machine or 'Shuffle Mode'.
Some speculate that the statue must have been cursed by some poor tortured soul back when the world was young. But many assume (and right so) that it was probably created by a God with an odd sense of humour...
