Yes--this one is a "happier version" of Kathy's nightmare from earlier in the series. And Fred wanting to "make you deliriously happy for the rest of your life" is a better version of being terrified to try to make love to her.

I confess that I was emotionally moved by the drawing of them as an aging couple watching the sunset.

It actually is meant to signify "the future," and to relate back to The Scary Door from the "Twilight Zone"-like montage. In that one the door was closed, conveying a sense of being trapped. In this one, the door is open, signifying possibilities.
