Here is the rear view of my '73 Vega. It has a V8 Monza rear gear set with posi and a 3:73 ratio. The exhaust points into the ground so it's loud at idle but pretty quiet on the freeway. An oversized swaybar, Gabriel air shocks and skinny rear tires (no tubs) finish off the period look. Yeah, I know, "they" can track me through my license plate. If you wanna' go to that much trouble, come on over and I'll buy you a beer.

I'm impressed most of all that someone would actually dump this kind of money into a Vega! Quite original all on its own!
I betcha she's one sweet ride, too.
Looking nice, Dogbomb!
On another note of interest, back in the day, the Vega were often refereed to as "bombs" - smoke bombs. They had some kind of design flaw in their engines that made them start burning oil very early on.
So heh, I assume you've replaced the engine, right? What with California's strict emissions laws being what they are, for sure!
Nice ride, Dogbomb!

No, I'm a little scared that I'll break it. I enjoy driving it to work everyday; it makes a great cruiser and the dogs like the attention that it gets. One day I'll run it through the 1/4... I think the '56 Belair is one of the coolest looking rides out there. Give me a yellow and white '56 anytime.
Yup, the 56 is going to be hot! I have a 427 witha forged SCAT crank for it. (That's all I have so far. Block and crank, I also have a Team G single plenum intake and a Holley 850 double pumper)
I'm shooting for about 600 horsepower.
So do the notoriously stingy police give you trouble in California? And you good at tuning carbs?
Would you believe I have to run a 1.5 inch power valve? That's what kind of cam I'm running.

Sounds like the '56 is gunna' be a runner! Yeah, the police have had a few words with me, but nothing lately. I'm getting to be an old guy now so I've slowed down I can tune a Mikuni motorcycle carb, but haven't really tried much with a big Holley. How is the idle with your big cam? I'll bet she's plenty lopey (love a lopey, glurpy idle.)
VERY lopey. And that's with the carb being made just for that engine. With the cam being as big as it is they made a few modifications to let it idle, such as drilling holes in the butterflies and there's a pinhole bleeder thingie they actually elongated. The butterflies must be open just enough to unblock that pinhole, so they put a groove in. I still havent gotten it tuned just right yet. I have to get my piston clearance problem fixed first. Last time I DID have it around the block... it blew my mind. I can smoke my dad's 1966 427 Stingray.
You really keep that thing clean, don't you? I ssee the axle and suspension even look spotless. What's that nipple beside the license plate? Electrical cutoff?
When I was a kid we had three vegas (The years of the more wedge design), the Blue and Brown ones were station wagons. The brown was totalled out, we were on the interstate doing 55 and outta blue a muscle car creamed us from behind and hit us so hard it pinched the wheel wells around the tires. I was in the back, just a toddler mostly, if sis didn't pin me down I would have been ejected out the back window.
The green Vega had that flaw where exhaust fumes were sucked into the cabin.
Yours is by far the nicest I have seen. They make awesome race cars even if stock they were a little anemic. I'd be proud to drive a car like that.

The little thingy beside the lic. plate is the port to fill the air shocks. Tricky, huh?
You were rear ended in a Vega? The whole car is a crumple zone. Glad you lived to tell about it! I guess the first year Vega had some fume sucking issues, so they punched a bunch of louvers in the hatch and changed the weather strip in later cars.
Thanks for all the kind words. I really appreciate everyone being so nice.

Real hot rodders appreciate a real hot rod. It's not like a lot of these tuner jockeys who think trash talk is a legitimate part of racing. "Yeah, but I burned ya, yo. Ya beat me by a tenth of a second so I win because I burned ya homes. Y'dig sweetness? I'm drivin' the hotness."
Ya have a lot of work and a lot of money into your car and clearly love it, and ya don't abuse it. That's pretty respectible!
The air shocks for my car are hiding in the trunk in a rather rough to get to spot. I have been considering under the rear license plate beside the gas cap.
