As Sandy observed, he's changed; he seems more...human, somehow.
We had a discussion about using the term "human" in this situation, and I pointed out that there really isn't an alternate word that gets the same idea across--someone who is compassionate, relatable, humble, and "just folks." We all know what the word "human" in this context means, but we can't describe the concept in a single word, other than "human."
So yeah, "human" is the word they use for being a decent person, a down-to-earth person who puts on his trousers one leg at a time, who is quick to help out, doesn't put on airs, and is the sort of person you'd want to have beside you in a tough spot.

Not to mention that he is the ONLY hyena who can save Rackenroon.
He could, so easily, used his position and money to wrest MORE money out of the country, but, despite him calling it a Hell Hole, he still LOVES his country, and wants to save it.
And at first he NEEDED Kathy to do it...now...he loves her.
