It's really only the higher tiers, like tournaments Ridley, starts to show his worst flaws (Massive and light weight), but against average or above average players, Ridley can actually work well if you know what you are doing. But he does take some time to get used to, most time in Nuetral you'll want to be using N-air as his tail works as a disjoint, similar to a sword and covers his whole body. You can combo off that if you hit with the landing N-air. You can also choose to mix up with F-air, it's less safe, but comes out quick and has longer range. Also, when the enemy is at 0%, and assuming they don't tech left or right, a down throw will combo into a down-B. But be careful about using his directional specials as all of them are very punishable. His Nuetral-B is a great camping tool to force approaches, which you can punish their approach, it also makes a very good ledge trap due to the angle. Also make use of his nice tilt attacks, as they are enormous and easy to follow up with. ThoughT-tilt is more of a poking tool than a combo tool, but it is useful. And up-tilt will hit on platforms above you. Ridley's most reliable kill move is B-air, but against most people you can get away with a D-Smash if you read them right. But most times, you want to kill by N-air, B-air, or f-airing them while they are off the stage. I hope this helped. :D
Ah, yeah he still struggles with rushdown characters and swordies. They are a lot trickier as you can't just go in and wail on them, the trick to them is to wait for them to whiff an attack, then retaliate. You really have to watch the opponent and dash dance around them. A lot of Ridley's tilts and N-air help a lot as well when it comes to rushdown characters so long as you can predict how they will approach. Swordies will be a bit harder as you'll want to play defensive against them, and try to wrack up damage from afar, usually with Nuetral-B and F-air, F-tilt tends to work a lot as well. You can also condition them to block with your neutral-B then punish them with side-B. With a bit of practice, I know you can show them that Ridley is amazing. :D
