In 2016 I went to the Detroit Zoo with my husband, and we encountered the wolf enclosure.

They where outside for a bit just lounging. When we walked inside the little outpost I was surrounded by pictures of “The Sawtooth Pack” Jim and Jamie Dutcher’s voices coming through speakers and I couldnt help but cry. I had been following that packs story since I was 7 years old.

I walked up to the glass, and the male wolf walked up and stood just looking at me. We stayed this way for 15 minutes.

One of the keepers walked in and said “Hes never done that to anyone else”

It was then, all of the self doubt and wondering if I was crazy got washed away. Since I was 5 years old. All of it. It was at that moment, he showed me, he knew what was inside of me, and was awknowledging it.

My husband - after he gave me one last look leaned down and whispered “He knows what you really are”

It was one of the most powerful moments of my life, and I will never forget it.
