Hubert the lion takes a moment to stare directly into my eyes on a recent visit to the lion shelter at Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle.
I have been going every week for the past 3 years so they do recognize me, especially the lioness, Kalisa... but I wonder what is going through Hubert's mind as I took this picture.
I love his "dreamy" look, like he's in his own little world :)
This shot is probably in my top 3 of all time and I'm very fortunate and proud I was able to share this moment with such a magnificent animal.

Yes, this lion in particular usually goes out of his way to avoid eye contact with zoo guests, so I thought this was highly unusual. I do think it was in part because I'm there quite often... or maybe it's the 'lion' in me heh :)
But yeah this might not ever happen again!
