Barry was having a normal day. It was his day off from school and work, and he was spending it kicking back and relaxing on his couch watching some television. Not the most productive use of his time but Barry didn't care. That was for future Barry to worry about! All he had to just let the time fly by.
This would continue until Barry brought his mail in which would lead to his whole life being turned upside down. He had received a strange, fancy looking letter that he prompted opened then and there out of curiosity. He was listed as being included in the will of a family member he hadn't even heard of. Inside of the envelope would be a plane ticket as well as information on how to get to the estate to learn what was left to him from...whoever it was. Barry wasn't even sure how he was related to them. Regardless, the opportunity was too good to pass. They seemed to be extremely wealthy, especially considering they organized all this to get him over to the estate. And the fact they owned an estate!
Barry made sure to get his suitcase packed up with some extra clothes, a traveling kit that included the hygiene things he needed, and of course a copy of the letter. Barry called worked to let them know he had to make the emergency trip, and let a friend know to keep notes for him while he was away.
After making sure his life at home was all situated and wouldn't be too disrupted by the trip, Barry would take an Uber to the airport where he would travel out of state to an entire set islands off of Europe! He was pretty excited for it, meeting this rich family he had never even heard of before. Barry drifted off into sleep, dreaming about the potential riches he might be getting once he landed.
*****
After having a rather relaxing flight, Barry would be picked up by a very nicely dressed chauffeur holding up a sign with his name on it. He would then be led to to a rather large limousine where the driver would rather silently drive him up to the estate. He didn't mind that too hard, as he was still groggy from the flight and not entirely awake. Looking out the window he saw the driver pulling up to an incredibly large mansion, by the looks of it the building was at least five stories tall. There were boats in a dock behind it, a golf course over the other way, and even a giant stone fountain of a regal looking dragon in front of the mansion in the courtyard.
They pulled up to the front of the manor, where Barry would be greeted by another fancy looking man dressed in a suit with glasses. He held a book in his hand with a pen attached to it. Upon seeing Barry get out he would open the book and write something inside of it.
"You must be Barry yes?" he asked, closing the book and adjusting his glasses.
"Yup!" he said happily. "Here to hear what I got!"
"You seem to be very happy about this passing." he made an idle comment about Barry's demeanor.
Barry was more than embarrassed at the realization of how he was acting. "S-sorry, I guess it's because I have no idea who the person who passed was. I never knew them or even told about them." he responded rubbing the back of his head.
"It makes no difference to me." the man answered back. "I have no relation to the deceased. I am only here to read the will to you. Now, let us go into the estate where we can discuss it further."
Barry nodded as he was led through the manor. Looking around there were incredibly well done portraits of dragons on the wall, even passing by a large mural of one. All of the furniture was incredibly high end and royal, with whites and golds. There were a few stone busts of a dragon, featuring a long, dull, and curved horns. They looked like miniature versions of the fountain outside. Barry inferred that whoever owned this place before must of had a fascination with this character.
Barry would be taken into a den, where the man guiding him took a seat in a large lounger, inviting Barry to sit across from him. He nodded and did so, and the man pulled out a paper from his suit pocket, unfolding it.
"I will now read from the deceased's last will and testament. It is all their words until I say otherwise." he explained and began.
"Dearest Barry Whitmore, you probably don't recognize me or my name nor do I expect you to. We had unfortunately never met before my passing, and it is something I regret deeply. As you can tell, you are the only one I called to come here. This was no mistake. You see Barry, I always saw a lot of myself in you. And because of that I leave you my entire estate and fortune. That's right, you are the sole heir. This entire mansion is your's as well as everything surrounding it. My only request is you drink a glass of wine in my honor. The wine is located in my own room, which is now your's. My butler Codsworth will assist you afterwards. I am sure you are tired from your journey to get here, so please rest up in your new room. The reader of the will shall direct you there. Please when greeting the morning enjoy the wine.
-Adaris"
"And that is the will." the man said folding it up again. "As per the letter I shall lead you to your new bedroom." he added on getting up, Barry doing the same.
He would be led to the master bedroom, which was on the top floor of the mansion. It was incredibly huge, and a door to a bathroom equally as big that featured a hot tub. There was also a balcony that he could step out onto to overlook the lovely hills and ocean adorning the side of the island.
"I am off now, the legal work will be mailed to you here. Congratulations on your inheritance and sorry for your loss." the reader of the will said his farewell as he guided himself out leaving the entire mansion to Barry. He was quite tired from the flight, and decided to hit the hay early to get a fresh start on exploring his newly inherited estate tomorrow. And so, Barry changed into his sleeping attire, of which consisted of just boxers. He got under the covers, some of the softest he's ever had the pleasure of lying in and drifted into one of the most comfortable sleeps of his life.
Barry slowly woke up, stretching out his arms. He was right in the center of the king sized bed, and still had tons of walking space in the room itself. He tossed his legs to the side, feeling incredibly energized to start this new chapter of his life kicking back, not having to care about anything but himself. He turned to the dresser to see a glass and bottle of wine, with a note reading "Barry" on it. He assumed this was the wine Adaris requested he drink in the will. Considering how much of an impact this whole thing would have, he felt it necessary to follow through on his wishes.
So, Barry would pour out a glass of wine for him to drink. It was nice and bubbly, and a whiff confirmed it smelled really good - and expensive! Feeling content he took a swig out of the drink, swishing it around in his mouth and swallowing. It wasn't just the smell that was good, but it was delicious too! Barry casually walked around examining his bedroom, blissfully unaware that the wine was causing a grand transformation to his body.
Barry's body would begin becoming harder and drier by the second. This would be due to his skin becoming rougher as bright, white scales overtook his body, a grey set of separated scales going down his front. His fingers became longer, the ends of them ending in a claw that was still easily able to hold his wine thanks to Barry holding it between his fingers. In the process he would have his middle and pinky finger merge with the fingers on their left to leave only three digits of them behind. Down at his feet, the same kind of transformation happened, with three digits forming with edged tips.
"Tsk, the horns take too long to grow in." Barry shook his head talking to himself, a more posh accent coming out of his mouth. He looked up, feeling a building sensation there and taking another sip. His tail had better come in the right length this time! A man of his stature needed his regal figure up to snuff! He needs to get that blasted alchemist to make the process go by quicker next time, this is taking far too long for a man of royal blood!
Barry's body shrank down with every step, starting to lose entire feet in height. While Barry would be shrinking in height, he would be growing out quite large protrusions out from his back and head. From just above his rear, an incredibly thick tail grew out from him, of which was longer and wider than his body itself. Out from the sides of his head two white horns formed out, with a gold ring forming over the base of each. They went out and upwards, curving downward and ending in tips. His face pushed outward as would the sides of it, turning into a dragonic snout.
As Barry started making his way to the balcony, his outfit would change. His boxers vanished entirely. Instead, a blue cape would be the only fabric on his new reptilian figure. It would be held up from being tied to golden epaulets, connecting with a gold band across his chest. Lastly, a crown formed that hung from the ends of his horns. Mentally, Barry had transformed as well. Gone was the lazy man living the good live. Instead, there was a member of a royal family, the King of these islands. He was a fair and just ruler, living off of the mainland to better enjoy the view of nature. He was Adaris, King of the Alcorey Islands.
Adaris walked out onto the balcony, finishing his wine looking down at the beautiful landscape. He purposefully built his manor to be able to take it in whenever he wanted. It was the good life, and his butler would soon enter; a white dragon similar to him, though with a much shorter tail and no horns present.
"Sir, I am sorry to interrupt you in your morning ritual, but you are due for your appearance to end the rumors of your death. I would advise getting prepared now." he spoke in a posh voice.
"Of course." Barry nodded, entering back in and setting his wine down on the dresser. "It is always such a chore every time I have to go through this. I wish that damned alchemist would hurry with that immortality potion I commissioned from them."
"I hope so too sir." Codsworth nodded and agreed.
"Prepare the travel arrangement and letter for when the next time this happens. Make one for yourself too, I can't have my prized butler dying on me now can I?"
"Right away sir." he answered with a bow and went his own way.
Adaris poured one more glass for himself. He always did hate breaking in these new bodies. The alchemist could never get his proportions right every time. His tail felt less grand than it should be! No matter, he could get it enhanced after he debunked the rumors of his death. He had no plans on having any heir, as he was hellbent on making sure he was the only one that would ever hold the crown. He sipped his wine in silence, hoping these needed bodily and mental transformations would soon end and would be able to stop sending out wills to random out of country addresses to replace him. Perhaps this was finally the last time...
