"You hold yourself back Azerek. You don't commit.
You don't realize it, not yet, but you're much stronger than I am."The best way to characterize Jathan in the story, from a storytelling view, is he's a person who lifts other characters up, kind of like an exposition tool. He's pretty well-established for much of the story and his development is pretty slow in the main-arch I'm developing, so I try to use Jathan as a means to enhance the development of tertiary characters, to help them believe in themselves as many of the characters that surround Jathan feel inferior in his presence, much to his annoyance.
Azerek lacked a positive male-role model in his life and looks up to Jathan to fill that void. He is both intimidated and respectful of him. However, Azerek has power and abilities far greater than he realizes, some that even overshadow Jathan, a genetically engineered soldier of war.

I don't know, this was drawn a long time ago.
Most of my "story related scenes" are just thought experiments for ideas I have in my head.
Jathan's personality and role in the story has changed much since then, as I realized showing his growth is a lot more interesting than having things already established or told to the reader.

I wasn't able to read the hidden comment, but in any case you're good. I didn't take anything you said as an insult.
I hope my response wasn't interpreted as dismissive either. My concern is how my art may be interpreted by viewers, however. I like to explore a whole bunch of different themes, ideas, and "what if" scenarios, but I don't want anyone to take them too seriously. The characters all began as one thing, but have gone through a lot of improvements as I've learned to put my own biases behind me and exclude them from the characters.
All of my characters inhabit some aspect of my real world personality. Jathan isn't my persona, rather all of the characters have some element of me, however I have been making an effort to distinguish their own background and agency independent of me.
As for Jathan, a lot of his character is learning to be more open and vulnerable to others. Jathan is part of some subjugated soldier-class of people that isn't well liked in society due to his genetic engineering and so he closes himself off from others. The only person he ever loved was his father, Aaron. But after he dies what does Jathan do with his life? Where does he go? Who will accept him? What is his destiny? Is the butcher of men and women all he was designed for?
So a lot of his character is discovering who he is as an individual; independent of his past and finding some place or meaning in the world while learning to make connections with others and be more open to others.
However, if you're wanting a more direct inspiration, this influence map is still very relevant in where I pull my influences for all of my characters and themes I'm trying to explore in my art:
