Introducing a character I've had an inkling about for the past year or so.
A prophet of sorts, called from his humble life as a shepherd in a small village just south of the Spire.
Chazaiah's family was one of prestige, his brothers being among the priesthood of the Spire's temple. He himself had studied with them, however, unlike them, he was more studious of the holy writings and came to question the traditions and practices the elder priests were teaching.
This differing point of view divided Chazaiah from his family, who used the priesthood more as a status symbol than a work of God.
Feeling isolated, Chazaiah left the Spire and moved to a small village on the edge of the mountains, putting his past as a scholar.
It was there he had his first call, while tending his flock. The glory of the Creator came to him and told him how the people suffered from the corruption of the priests, and that he had chosen Chazaiah out of all the people of the mountains to preach his word truly and straightly.
The leopard was hesitant at first, not convinced the people would listen, but the prodding of the Creator's glory spurred him on.
He became a prophet that day, a preacher, and a judge. He spoke from the scrolls that he had taken with him, preaching to the people directly from the Holy Writings, something the people of the mountains had never seen the priests do.
He preached warnings to the priests, saying that if they did not repent of their lecherous ways, the Creator would bring judgement upon them.
His words set him apart further from his family, but closer to the people that the priests lorded over. They came to call him the 'Shireman' because he spoke with the authority of a lawman and lived among the common folk, not separately like the priest did.
Chazaiah is not a name from the Bible, but very well could be. It is a Hebrew name meaning 'God Sees'
