Honestly, given how actually bad the manga can be, I think KyoAni made the right choice in deviating from it.
Perfect example: In the anime, Lucoa wants to be this mother/big sister figure to Shota and he's scared of her at first because of comical misunderstandings. In the manga, she's straight-up pursuing him sexually against his will and that's why he's so scared of her.
