Sadly there isn't a necessity for jumbo jets anymore given how stagnant air travel is. The A380 just doesn't save fuel or have any other environmental and ergonomical pros due to this. Makes more sense to purchase the 777 or 787. Airbus made a mistake investing in the A380 and that was forecasted when it was to compete with the 787.
That is a shame, Boeing was afraid supersonic aircraft would take there sales. The 747 my not be the most fuel efficient but, they planned that the passenger service may die off due to supersonic service. I read they designed it as a cargo carrier as well and the concord was too expensive for the average passenger. Maybe they will find a way to keep it in the air.
The US air force have used the B52 since 1955, to keep them in the air they have to be creative and put in the money for the new upgrades. The Airbus 380 needs to adapt to survive and find time for a solution. New more fuel efficient would be a good start.
