So, I'm not exactly sure of how old Beto is supposed to be here, but with the mature-looking and muscular body shape, and the rather large head, he looks like he might be 7 or 8 years old. I think it's a matter of proportions as you said (not only with the legs, but the head as well). I think you would benefit greatly from looking at Google Images of kids around whatever age range you want to draw them as. That helps me a lot. :) I think that the way you drew the face itself is adorable, though! I love Beto's expression. Keep up the good work.
