MER-B Opportunity was a hole-in-one mission. Quite literally, in fact: It landed in the middle of a small crater where the past presence of liquid water was immediately confirmed. Opportunity then journeyed well beyond its expectations, stretching a 90-sol mission into a 5000-sol exploration spree taking it from a meteorite to Victoria Crater to the west rim of Endeavour Crater. Opportunity traveled such a long distance that it became known as "The Rover that Ran a Marathon". Its endurance was and still is legendary. But alas, Opportunity eventually met its fate under the clouds of the Great Storm of 217, which is still one of the most powerful dust storms ever recorded. Opportunity's solar panels were overwhelmed, and on 02 Cancer 217, contact with MER-B Opportunity was lost and never recovered. Its mission was declared over on 21 Scorpius 217, having lasted over 60 times longer than expected.

Truly a sad occurrence, the lonely life of a machine, almost feels like it could be the plot of an episode of The Twilight Zone, if you know what that show is... anyways, you did a great job on this piece, really capturing the lonely extraterrestrial feeling of another world while at the same time, hampering home the desolation and isolation we’re meant to feel. Your landscape is beautiful if not a little simplistic, you’ve completely captured the emptiness of mars. Kind of makes me want to play Metroid Prime again, those were the days. Anyways, great painting, look forward to seeing more.
