COMIC SANS FOLDER This one is almost same as over-exposition
What happens when OC is more important than exposition and worldbuilding? Mary Sues happens.
And by Mary Sues I don't mean the characters that are just 'strong' but characters that are meant to be special and powerful in their own universe on maany levels.
Special name, special abilities, special pet, special body, special weapon, special mind, special mark, special scar, special backstory, special eyes and many more~
Don't get me wrong, every hero of the story needs to be unique in their own way, but taking all posibble 'special' traits makes them more hard to identify with viewer.
The MarySue comic character feels just pretty false, like all his/her information about special traits could replace his/her character.
So creating a scenario just to show character's awesomeness is kinda poitnless and boring.
Let him/her solve the problem not by being just awesome/having a special trait or deus ex machina.
Let a character have a past that can teach him not only about fighting but also how to actually live.
Let them have both sweet and bittersweet backstory, because it's like a cake, it needs both sugar and salt to be perfect. (wait, what, stop that)
But heyyy, you maybe want that character to be that extraordinary, after all everybody is allowed to create everything.
And there is nothing wrong with that, so why I consider it as sin?
Because when seeing a story I expect an adventure, humorous actions, feelings, not dry information.
I want to see a character that will intrigue and make me understand his/her actions, not only his/her words.
The easiest way to check if your character isn't too much Mary-Sue-is is literally a Test (http://springhole.net/writing/marysue.htm)
Other way is trying to see your character from viewer's point of view.
Welp, this is messy, I will probably edit this thousand times untill it will be clear enough.
Actions speak louder than words do
Can you show your character without using any word?
______________
Remember that this is not a DO/DON'T of comics, everybody is making a comics in their way and nobody can force them (except their publisher mwahahah) to change their way of creating.

I really loved this comparison. 99% of people don't understand this. They also don't understand that each character has personal tastes EG your badass chad husky might prefer orange juice instead of wine
