A tribute to an old, obscure, but beloved game- Spore Creatures.
the soundtrack for this game, by the way, is lovely.
This particular track is my favorite- it's very calm, and honestly might be one of my favorite pieces of music(ever!).
SC was a huge part of my childhood, and although the graphics were somewhat simple, it inspired a lot of creativity in me when I was young. the game handed over near complete control of the protagonist's design and stats to the player, and it was really fun experimenting and making different creatures with it! the story was also quite nice, setting up the protagonist as a shape-shifting creature in a strange new world(s), who must make allies and overcome foes in an journey to reunite with their abducted sibling. along the way they also, uhm, save the galaxy from a plague? that too.
The big black creature here was the main form my protag used through a nostalgic playthrough- the little blue bean fellow is their younger brother, Little Oogie. (the fact that you start out as a similar little bean creature really gives the progression of the game a strong sense of growth- what was once a helpless little thing that didn't even had a mouth grows up to become a mighty beast capable of out dancing and out fighting just about anything around)
also, because this game is obscure as heck and came out in freaking 2008,, i might be a world expert on it??? I've been able to get nearly every part/achievement in the game(save for the elusive Lileepa eyes, which I've for some reason never encountered in my years of playing this game????) I've only seen like one thorough walk through/guide, but i bet if i dig deep enough I'll find someone more knowledgeable than myself.
