Julius is always on time. People like when you're on time. He's good at his job, people like competence. Opening or closing accounts, deposits, withdrawals, he's learned to do it all with speed, precision, and without cracking a distracting smile. Things became uncertain the day Jeffery sat down on the other side of that desk, Julius not quite understanding that look in the perky long-ear's eye. But as with everything else, he nagivated the situation with poise and focus, acquiring a boyfriend without losing sight of the task at hand.
It's important to look professional, so the lop-ear does the right thing and tucks his ears back behind his shoulders when he can. It's just common decency, to hide such ridiculous looking things from a clientele who expects more. Do others lops do it? Maybe not all of them. That's their choice. Julius prefers to stay above that, after all, the most professional people he ever knew were his parents, and dad made it pretty clear these ears were nothing to be proud of. Nobody else in the house had them. It was mother's fault perhaps, 'it's complicated' she'd say whenever he asked too many questions about why he doesn't look like his brothers and sisters. And this was the most conversation he could usually get out of either parent. Understandable. Surely most parents would prefer to talk to the kids that look right. They have to talk to somebody, they don't seem to have much to say to each other, anymore.
So it was just easier not to talk to anybody. Julius kept his head down in school. Grades were good, there was nothing to say, and rabbits never really did raise their kids to bring home outsiders to play with. It was just as well, Julius never noticed that he was "girly" until some of the children so helpfully pointed it out to him. It was, apparently, very funny. He wasn't going to get any sympathy from Dad, he didn't get it, either. So it's just easier to stay quiet. People like it when you're quiet.
It seems Julius is not very 'fun.' Jeffery seems very fun, according to his friends. So fun he'll do it on camera, he doesn't care who sees it. Or he used to. Jeffery retired to spend his time with Julius, instead. Or at least, that's how he tells it. It doesn't make a lot of sense to Julius, he wasn't brought up to think it did. After all, Jeffery's fun, he looks like his father, and they literally pay him to be delicate. Is this really the best Jeff can do? Julius is sure he knows the answer to that. So he enjoys this pairing while it exists, all the while maintaining realistic expectations of how it should end. People like it when you're realistic.
So maybe one day they'll like him, too.
I think a large portion of my followers assume drawing descriptions are the extent of my written work. And since it's the only writing that gets read, maybe it's just as well.
