Ahh yes the Thunderbolt... Some loved them some hated them!
I remember Boyington saying they flew and handled like a truck... on a good day.
He was fond of the P-40 in spite of some of it's drawbacks, mainly under gunned. He liked the Corsair but it too had issues. I forget what plane it was that he flew that he said had gear issues because the landing gear. The doors carried the whole undercarriage for the plane. Sometimes the gear wouldn't come up and lock or they were up and wouldn't go down.
