today is setsubun 節分 in japan also known as "throw soybeans on demons to vanquish them" festival :v
or is a special ritual to cleanse away all the evil of the former year and drive away disease-bringing evil spirits (oni) for the year to come. This special ritual is called mamemaki "bean throwing" usually soybeans
but this dragon demon is sacred as he wears a sacred rope with lightning shaped paper talismans on it but people seems to be still afraid of him somewhat :p
