Tatta's Feral To Anthro Guide
several times at conventions I have people come to me wanting to draw their characters, but they don't have a ref for them... I have a ton of body styles to use and hearing "chibi" or "kinda feral" just weren't working out... so I started using terms like "semi-feral anthro" which is my usual style for drawing characters (like my rat sona, she's usually drawn in semi-feral anthro)
then I figured I should draw out all the most common mixes for legs, bodies (and in the semi-human anthro, and human with animal features cases) faces
lemme break it down here ^^
starting with feral, going clockwise:
feral: a character drawn with normal animal anatomy, no hands, thumbs or upright posture (unless the animal has any of those traits naturally)
semi-feral anthro: usually keeping some of the anatomy from the animal, usually the legs, but with an upright posture, and more human like hands and arms
digigrade anthro: this is the most common anthro I see, uses a little bit of the animal anatomy, but stretching it out to look more humanish, usually has a well defined human shaped chest, shoulders, hips, and human hands
semi-human anthro: a lot like the digigrade anthro, but the legs more resemble a human walking on their tiptoes...with paws... sometimes this form also includes a shorter muzzle or more humanized facial features
human: ......... this one should speak for itself..... just normal human anatomy here, no animal features whatsoever
human with animal features: think anime cat girls.... they have ears and tails, but are NOT anthro characters.... occasionally you'll see one with an animal nose... but this is uncommon
planigrade anthro: same as a digigrade anthro, but with human type legs ending in paws
toony (or plantigrade semi feral anthro): same as the semi-feral anthro, only with human type legs, I call it "toony" because this is how most cartoons involving talking animals are drawn.. think looney tunes
hopefully this helps someone when deciding what kind of anatomy they want their character to have... and be sure to link people to this if you need to clarify something with someone ^^ but PLEASE do not post this under your own name or account!! I do not give permission for this to be posted anywhere other than DA or FA
