Farren's Pet Journal
It's always exciting getting a new pet. It's a new friend to play with, to love, to share the ups and downs of life with. Farren the mink anthro had always wanted a dog. Eleven days ago, Farren adopted a corgi from the local shelter and brought him home. By all accounts, both owner and pet seemed to get along well. No one had reason to suspect otherwise.
Farren decided to keep a pet journal to help keep track of his new animal's habits. Eleven days later, Farren went missing. He wasn't the only one. During that time, there were widespread disappearances of both neighborhood residents and their pets. When police entered his home, they discovered his pet journal along with his seemingly abandoned corgi. While the entries start off normal enough, they soon grow desperate and terrified, blaming all of the crimes...on the dog.
ScrambleandClick commissioned this lovely piece. They wanted something of a sentient feral who was clearly more than just a pet. I had the idea to make it in a journal format. A slow descent into the horrors that come with owning a gluttonous corgi. :9 What do you do when your new pup just wants to eat everyone whole?
Enjoy. <3 Lemme know whatcha think.

I really like the concept and quality of writing, but as long as I imagined that the predator was really the size of a Corgi, and could fit through a little dog door but still swallow people whole, it ultimately was just too cartoony a tale to take seriously. What I imagined though, was that the beastit was some kind of medievalesque-looking demonic hell-dragon thing the size of a horse so it could squeeze thorugh doors and a reptilian like maw large enough to swallow people whole, but it had a hypnotic kind of ability to make it appear to everyone who looks at it as a cute, chubby diminutive Corgi, (though regular animals seemed to see it as it really was and were justly terrified of it). I would have Farren discover this by accident when he partially sees its reflection in the bathroom mirror. Farren assumes it could be captured on film or a digital image as well, but the beast never allows him to take a picture of it, going so far as snatching his phone, or camera and crushing or swallowing it. I think if you expand it a bit like this, more people will like it. The story would also fit well in a human, rather than furry world and I think would even make a great movie. Thanks for sharing!
