In the past year I've examined a few things and started to work on the zone principle in my work. Normal humanoid characters, such as many of the ones I draw, have 5 zones on their bodies. A super detailed person, a photorealistic representation, has 6 or 7 zones. A cartoonish character, such as Sonic or Mario, has 4 zones. This sketch is outlining some of the basics of the latter. Repetition is the key to this, so another couple pages full of this while trying to lay down some ground rules and observations along the way should help. Of course, for now only the skeleton really needs to be done with the lines coming much later.
