Episode 6: Turning up the volume…
Drez woke up slowly. The first thing he noticed, when he had finally come to his senses, was that he was cuddling a rather warm object to his still-damp chest fur. The events of last night came flooding back to him, and he hugged Jenga a bit tighter. The wolf snuggled deeper into Drez’s chest, only half awake.
For a while the two lay like that, content. Eventually though, Jen yawned, and chose to plant a quick peck on Drez’s cheek. The fox smiled. “Sleep well?” Jen nodded enthusiastically, a smile on his face. Drez couldn’t help but smile wider. Jen could be so cute when he was happy. He slowly sat up, carrying Jen with him. He glanced with one eye out the window. It looked to be about noon. They needed to get out, in case Josh showed up soon. He didn’t want Jen crying again.
Jen also noticed the time, but looking at his bedside clock. He pushed slowly and reluctantly away from Drez. “We should go get ready.” He smiled softly.
Drez nodded. Reluctantly he let go of Jen, getting up to walk out of the room. He glanced back as he reached the door. Jen smiled lovingly at him. He smiled back.
Jen was out of his room fairly quickly, wearing a red vest and brown dress pants. He sat on the couch for a while, wondering what was taking Drez so long. He was about to go in and look, when the fox’s door opened, and Drez stepped out.
He looked stunning. His shirt was a dark purple at the top, slowly fading in gradient hues down to a sky blue where it met his pants. From there, it faded down his pants from sky blue, to white. His shoes where a pristine white color.
Around his neck, he wore the ruby amulet Jen had given his for his 18th birthday, the sapphire bracelet Jen had given him for his 16th birthday, and the small hoop earring Jen had given him when they moved into college.
All Jenga could do was stare. He had never seen Drez this dressed up. Evan watched from the kitchen, grinning. Drez only dressed up when he had a mind to. He remembered all the dates he went on in high school. Not a single one had he ever dressed in anything but jeans and a t-shirt. Not even to fancy dinners.
The two stared at each other for a while, each marveling at each other, blushing softly. Then, they seemed to remember what they were supposed to be doing, at the same time. Drez took Jen’s hand softly, opening the door for him. He made a small bow and gestured out the door. “Gentlewolves first.”
Jenga giggled, stepping out. Drez followed, closing the door.
Evan grinned to himself. Why those two hadn’t hooked up before was beyond him. They were truly a match.
When Drez said he was taking him out, he didn’t think the fox actually meant, well, outside. Drez took him to the city park. With extensive machinery, the city had preserved this plot of land, making it green and fresh, despite pollution. Jen loved it here.
The two walked the trails slowly, hand in hand. Neither spoke; all the words they needed were conveyed in their silence. When they reached the center of the park, they stumbled across a small farmers market, and stopped to browse.
Jen looked at the fruits, eyeing each one. Drez stepped in, and bought a peach. He handed it to Jen, who promptly threw his arms around the fox, squeezing him. “Peach! My favorite!” Drezda smiled, giving the wolf a small peck on the cheek.
The two walked off again, Jen snacking on the fruit with one hand. Drez smiled lovingly at the wolf as they walked. It felt so good to be with him, who he loved.
Jenga finished eating, turning to smile at Drezda. Have you ever wondered,” he asked, “why we found each other?”
Drez tapped his chin, thinking. “Well,” he began playfully, “I would think that it was so I could find you, and love you.” He smiled at Jen, face full of emotions he had never truly felt before.
The wolf blushed and giggled, his expression one of bliss.
Drez looked at the sky; it was getting dark slowly. He and Jen walked a for while longer, eventually choosing to stop at a secluded bench in a small grove of oak trees.
Jen cuddled up to Drez’s chest as the fox wrapped his arm around him. The wolf squeezed Drez tight, looking up into his face. “Thank you, Drez. For everything.”
He slowly pulled the fox’s maw down to meet his, their muzzles locking in a slow, gradual fusion of mutual love. Drez’s arms pulled Jen closer, while Jen snaked an arm behind his head, not wanting the kiss to end. Jen’s tongue slowly snaked into Drez’s mouth, who locked his with the wolf’s.
They stayed that way for hours, neither wanting to end the embrace. But eventually the had to; it was getting late, the daylight was almost gone.
Slowly, reluctantly, they parted, arms still around each other. Drez smiled lovingly at Jen, who returned the smile. Those were all the words they needed.
They walked home, hand in hand.
Silence, their only voice.
