A few years ago I picked up a wonderful book called 'SED: Stunning Eastern Design', filled with images of mundane DDR ephemera such as soap wrappers, tea kettles, salt shakers etc.
It was amazing to see how incompetent the Soviet Bloc was at producing even the most basic consumer goods.
