Concept for a fantasy world I've been intermittently developing, Mara is a vampire. Vampires are a race like any other, having bat-like qualities such as prehensile feet and semi-functional wings built into their arms. In order to blend into society, vampires are one of two beings (the other being dragons) to possess shapeshifting capabilities.

Vampires can instinctively control their shapeshifting in three ways: diffusing their bodies into a thick mist or fog, changing their outward appearance to blend in with the canine races they secretly cohabitate with, and (most drastically) change into a more bestial form.

Mara is young by vampire standards, just over one hundred years old. If properly fed, a vampire will never die of age (though they may starve or be killed like anyone else), so many live for several centuries before eventually dying of natural causes such as disease, or unnatural causes such as murder.
