Commentary for October 3, 2019:
Again, it appears that I overwrote the original commentary for this page with the next one and, sadly, I don’t recall what I wrote back on June 1, 2013. I can only really speculate and offer my thoughts on it in retrospect.
This page isn’t garbage like page 2.02. But it was around about here that I started to really question how useful 3D models could be in creating this comic. A standard sized panel like panel 1 would never look too ugly, but a panel the size of panel 3 inevitably was going to end up being all pixelly, and I knew that’s not what I wanted even when I made this page. But I really wanted a quick and easy way to create scenes like this. Even as recently as Chapter 8, which went online on November 14, 2018, I was still trying to use the 3D models as part of the final image, albeit seriously augmented with outlineslines and shading all drawn in Paint Shop Pro so I could avoid this kind of clunky pixelisation. It wasn’t until the next chapter that I realised and accepted that the best use of these models is as guides only. Yeah, it means the art takes longer, but it looks so much better than, well, this.
And, of course, in order to bring the format of the earlier chapters into line with Chapter 7 onwards, I’ve made an updated version of this page, which is larger, with clearer text. Hopefully, this will make the earlier chapters easier to read.
