"My dearest sister, Mocha Delight
It's been an age since we last spoke. I regret that very much and have decided to reach out to you, my big sister. Things have been going very well the last few years in Canterlot. Mother and Father are in good health and still actively working. You'd think Cheddarjack would retire from the deli, but he claims his hooves need to stay busy or else he's not happy. I can relate to those feelings. In recent years our daughter, Citrus Tang, has grown into a beautiful young mare. However she doesn't seem to be interested in pursuing education or an occupation. Brave Trot and I did not expect this trouble in our years of planning. My husband and I have decided we would like to continue our research outside of Canterlot. However that means leaving our indecisive daughter on her own. Lately she hasn't been making the best choices for herself and it makes me worry for her.
We have reached out to Mother and Father, but they are convinced it's all just a phase and likely nothing bad will come of it. However I've told Bravetrot I don't think I can leave her on such uncertain feelings.
Cheddarjack had made a joke last time we were having family dinner together. That it's a shame that Citrus Tang couldn't work with her aunt Mocha since they both had such talents with it. He always speaks fondly of you, it's clear he misses working together with you and you being around. Maybe you should try to visit Mother and Father sooner than later.
With that thought in my head, it wouldn't leave me be. And finally I decided to write you this letter and see what your thoughts might be on the matter. Brave Trot and I will be gone for at least 3 months for the first trip. I thought, if it at all possible, maybe Citrus Tang should come and visit you. And maybe seeing a pony, a pony related to her no less, be successful at her talents could... help inspire her. For anything mind you. I sure wouldn't expect to see Citrus Tang offer a drink to Princess Celestia. Ha.
I hope your days are well and your hooves are busy. I know how antsy you get, like father, if you're not working. I hope this is good news and I am excited to hear back from you dear sister.
Your little sister, Sweet Memo."
Inside of the envelope were more thin sheets of paper, photographs with small notes inscribed on them, some on the back. The soft amber glow of Mocha's might lit each piece and floated them gently before her on the cafe's counter top. One of newborn Citrus Tang and her father. One of Tang's early teen birthday parties. Another of filly Citrus Tang and Mocha's father, Cheddarjack smiling together. Warmth spread through her chest and pulled at her throat. It had been such a long time since she had seen any of them, her family. She would get letters from her parents, but mostly just about the upkeep of their lives and how the weather is. It was meaningless prattle, but still prattle she missed. Especially on days like today where the cafe was quiet, it would remind her of the stories her father would tell her about gathering all the finest ingredients in the land for his shop. She smiled and tilted the photograph of Citrus Tang and her father, she wondered if he also told her niece those stories as well. Would that be something they could talk about?
Mocha Delight sighed gently and lowered the letter onto the counter top. Could she look after another pony besides herself? It had been a very long time since anyone had some to stay with her. But maybe if she moved some things around she could have an extra room ready for her before she got here. Swallowing hard, before she got here. Had she already decided that she would take her? Could she? Mocha Delight looked back down to the photograph of newborn foal and her father. The stallion Mocha Delight herself had fallen in love with. Could she care for his foal? The thoughts ran through her mind before the bell rang out, chiming the entrance of a customer.
In a flash of her magic, Mocha Delight picked up the letters and photos to quietly stash under the counter until she had time to write a reply to her sister.
