"Ugh, my shirt!"
*cough* "Sorry."
"This is why I told you to try with water first, Jeff! And stop laughing, Abderrahmane, at least this is not as bad as that chopstick debacle of yours."
I decided to doodle some characters from my fictional universe.
Although lapping liquid up is the natural way of drinking for canids of Youkali, it is considered vulgar in many oriental cultures. Because of this, aristocrats and affluents of most eastern nations prefer to drink through a peculiar method of rolling tongue in mouth and funneling liquid through it into the throat, at least in public.
Jeffrey, who was adopted and raised by a human couple, always felt self conscious about lapping. When he heard of the oriental method of drinking, he wanted to try learning it. However, maintaining the correct shape of the tongue and pouring adequate amount of liquid was difficult for someone who never drank in such way, and the tea 'went down the wrong pipe' in his first try.

That certainly would be a much more convenient and elegant way to drink, though I have slight doubt on whether canine mouth structure is able to create enough suction to use straw without difficulty. With weak suction power, pulpy fruit juices certainly would not be the most easiest beverage for them to drink with a straw.
Depends on the tightness of the lips, and that depends on the breed. Wolves and foxes tend not to drool much, and the same goes for some dog breeds. Those with slack lips, or “flews”probably can’t. However, barbarians still lap up their drinks.
