“I’ve been having this dream lately, a memory honestly. Although; I couldn’t really prove if everything from my memory is accurate. I was only 8 years old at the time. But my parents can vouch that part of it (the ending at least) happened, and that only makes this memory even more special to me. It’s; logically, part of the reason I have this weird affinity with being around nature. It’s why I always feel oddly excited around dogs…well; around wolves actually.
We are told to stay away from wolves, that they are mainly ferocious animals that would tear you apart if you even come close to one. And that might be true…if you were one of those idiots that didn’t understand boundaries or common sense. Wolves or any kind of group of wild animals will; of course, take offense to some stranger stepping into their territory; their home, putting on their scare faces to frighten away the unwelcome intruder…ready to strike and kill if that intruder doesn’t get the message. Rarely would one ever meet a wolf that wouldn’t be frightened at first, let alone act as friendly as a dog.
Guess I was lucky…or maybe wolves do understand reason and emotions better than we thought.
I wasn’t lucky at first; though, suddenly lost in the middle of the woods with dawn not yet visible. I don’t remember how I got there; I was with my parents on a camping trip and somehow, in the middle of the night, I had wandered off into the forest so deep I didn’t recognize anything to follow back to camp (let alone see anything). Except for the eyes. In the dark I saw red eyes watching me, blinking out of existence until there was only a pair left. And it began to approach me.
I cried, calling for my mom and dad. The creature; this animal that looked like a dog yet scary looking, came closer. The dream was turning into a nightmare afraid the monster-looking animal was going to eat me. I froze shutting my eyes feeling its wet nose rubbing over my shoulders and cheeks…and then laughed feeling its tongue licking my face. When I calmed down I could see the wolf a bit more clearly in the dark, sitting down on its haunches panting gleefully as it observed me. I reached out, hand shaking, and the wolf offered its muzzle letting me pet and stroke.
She was blue; her dark fur was tinted in this navy blue color unusual for any canine I think. And its eyes glowed red but not as menacing as I once saw, a strange tenderness reflecting back at me.
She…wait; how do I know it was a female wolf?
As I said; I can’t completely trust my memory. I may even be getting it mixed up with the dreams. It’s hazier now, but I do remember the blue wolf guiding me through the woods staying close; protective as it let me travel right beside it clinging to the fur of its sides. It even curled around me at times when we heard noises; movement within the dark woods, snarling at the hidden threat and nuzzling me to keep me calm.
Eventually; we came to the morning light, the trees thinning revealing the clearing of the camping site, and my mom and dad standing like tall silhouettes waiting at the light for my return. This is where my parents could tell you the rest is true, they confirmed I got lost in the morning and have been frantically searching around the area for me. They were really shocked to see me walking back home with a wolf traveling beside me. Mom scooped me up and hugged me tight kissing me all over my face (embarrassing, but I was a kid). My dad started to yell at the wolf; though, scaring the canine back towards the woods. I don’t blame dad for it; if only they had known how nice the wolf had been too me.
That’s normally it for my experience with the blue wolf…but lately these memorable dreams have been hitting me again and…I don’t know if what I saw last is memory or purely dream. In my dreams I’m calling back to the blue wolf not wanting my new friend to just leave. The creature stops where we came from.
She turns her head to look at me, and (I swear) the blue wolf sheds tears. I don’t think most animals could cry. It hurts (emotionally) when I wake from that.
I drew her before in just a light sketch, but I had to redraw her and give her color this time since these dreams have been daunting me. Kind of my way to try to express to the world that while animals can be dangerous they can also be empathic; kind. Huh…why do I think it was a girl wolf?
Though…I think I may have to take a break with all the wolf drawings and musings for a bit. Along with that memory dream of mine I’ve been having other wolf dreams lately…really intense ones. Sometimes exciting, sometimes frightening. And…I think it’s starting to affect me. I feel like I’m ‘changing’…or something. I don’t want to sound weird but…I feel like I’m…
Nevermind; it’s a nutty thought. Honestly; I think these little roleplays I have with a ‘really good friend’ of mine are slipping into my dreams and making me feel this way. Who knows. Maybe on the next full moon those ‘feelings’ might surface into something more ‘beastly’? :-P”

Over 10 years.
I won't this project die.
2019...I plan to rejuvenate this monster and let it [b]HOWL[b] again until the very end...and then hopefully Book 2 and beyond.
