For the month of June, 2018, I tried to do at least one drawing a week in celebration of Pride month, featuring characters from my comic, Eon's World, who are each somewhere on the LGBTQ spectrum. #1 is Serena Darkstorm.
Serena Darkstorm is a Jedi Knight and current Grandmaster of the Terran United Jedi Order. She is a Cornerian wolf, born on the planet Corneria in the Lylat system in the Terran year 2476 and taken at a young age to be trained by the Galactic Jedi Order under the guidance of Jedi Master Zenith. As a young Jedi Knight, she returned to Lylat during the Second Lylat War, in which the Sith Lord, Darth Mortus led an uprising on the planet Venom. The Jedi aided the Cornerian Federation in defeating Mortus and quelling the Venomian rebellion, but Serena's fighter was shot down during the final battle over the frigid planet Fichina. Left for dead by her comrades and badly injured, she did not expect to survive. However, a passing science ship found and rescued her, but injuries to her left arm were too severe and it had to be amputated below the elbow. She received a cybernetic replacement and was reunited with the Galactic Jedi Order; but when she learned that her comrades had abandoned her, Serena felt betrayed and left the Order.
Serena spent the next decade making a living as a Jedi Ranger -- a Jedi who is not part of any order, working instead as a mercenary and a bounty hunter. In the Terran year 2505, however, she met a young man from Earth called Eon Squirrel on the commerce planet Nebulan. Eon had travelled deep into space in search of the Jedi to ask for their help in combating an elusive Sith Lord, who was hiding somewhere on Earth and manipulating geopolitical events there in a bid for power. Unbeknownst to Eon, Serena sensed that the Force was strong with him, and believed that, not only would the Galactic Jedi Order help him, they might also train him as a Jedi. She returned to the Jedi temple on Regulan IV for the first time in nearly ten years. However, the Jedi council dismissed the idea of a Sith Lord on Earth -- to them, Earth was far too primitive a planet for a Sith there to pose a genuine threat. Nevertheless, also sensing Eon's potential, they offered to train him, but at the cost of having to abandon his home, friends, family -- his entire life on Earth. Eon refused and prepared to return home empty-handed. But Serena agreed to go with him, as she was not beholden to the council. And moreover, she agreed to train him herself, so that he could become a Jedi and together they could face Earth's shadowy Sith Lord.
When they reached Earth, they found that a terrible civil war had begun between the United Nations of Earth and the Echidna Empire. Serena trained Eon and he quickly became a skilled young Jedi. Together, they helped the Union defeat the Empire, and they unmasked and vanquished the Sith Lord, Darth Acerbus. However, the Galactic Jedi Order had not forgotten Serena... or Eon for that matter. They sent scouts to Earth and were shocked to learn that a renegade like Serena had trained a padawan without their supervision or approval. The council demanded that Eon be brought before them and be given remedial training to undo any harm Serena might have done. Eon refused and Serena defended her apprentice, even if it meant death for them both. However, two of the scouts sent to Earth, Master Solomon Waverider and his former padawan, Delta Starfire defected, forcing their companions to flee Earth, and they chose to remain there with Serena and Eon. With the help of a number of Jedi refugees fleeing the creeping authoritianism of the Galactic Jedi Order, they established the United Nations Jedi Order, and Serena was appointed its first Grandmaster.
Following the short but devastating Earth-Mars War of 2510, in which the Jedi played only a very small role, the Sol system was united under the new Terran Union. Now, the Terran United Jedi Order has grown and actively recruits potentiates from throughout Terran space. Serena spends less time in the field than she used to, given the responsibilities of being Grandmaster, and she can usually be found at the Jedi Academy in the Highlands of Scotland.
Serena Darkstorm is strong with the Force, and often relies on her telekinetic powers more so than her skill with a light-sabre. Although she is a competant swordsman, she knows it's not her greatest strength, and she's not averse, like some Jedi are, to falling back on a blaster if the occasion calls for it. She is a skilled combat pilot, and a veteran of many battles.
What is not widely known about Serena is that she is also asexual and homoromantic. However, her duties as Jedi Grandmaster and the difficulty in finding a partner who can be satisfied without any sexual contact somewhat limits her prospects. Although she would quite like to find someone to love, she accepts that it would be a challenge and it's not a priority for her, given the responsibilities of her career.
