trade for
manojalpa of Zal kinda sorta.
see I was told that I could redesign him a little bit kinda in the same vein as http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2970868/ so I went a little crazy with it.
the original character looks like this: http://rp.manojalpa.net/zal/Rhynn_ZalWIP.jpg

I also really like a lot of your character designs. Humans masquerading in stylistic creature costumes is a personal favorite of mine. Naturally, I enjoy this and your Lion-costumed and Croc-costumed characters a lot.
Specifically, I really enjoy the costuming. I like that the character looks like a human dressing up as something else (rather than, say, a lot of furry costuming which is all about hiding the person underneath 100%). I find the design is more fluid this way. I think integrating the bodies is the most fun of it.
yeah, in other words: this is pretty awesome.
(I was totally going to request something similar from you too for our trade, but by the time I had thought of it I already gave you my details, haha. Maybe next time. I would love to see you do a version of Dii in Avatar-garb in the same fashion.)

wow thanks for such a well thought out reply :D
I too like the 'costuming' look simply because it makes more sense to me. Take Shugah for example, he IS a crocodile but in the universe he happens to live in his human looks are kind of a birth defect. all the talking animals and singing flowers and sparkly fairies are defect creatures, just regular animals and things that got somehow screwed up in the womb. for example, Shugah does have siblings, but they all look exactly like regular crocodiles. His mom was a regular crocodile, his dad was a regular crocodile, it just so happens that his particular biology was put together in such a way that either something in both of the parents that was dormant got set off or he was just more susceptible to corruption in the womb (maybe his mom ate a human who had some sort of magical taint or ability while she was pregnant). Shugah can do things that the crocodiles that came before him probably couldn't do now, like talk and generally behave in a more human manner. This shows on the outside, making the crocodile parts of himself seem more costumey.
but I'm getting off track.
I like that idea. the animal who acts human showing that humanity through their looks. and having to deal with all that it entails.
it makes a lot more sense to me than a dog who can work an ipod.

What a great explanation. Not only does it make more sense than the whole "Dog can work and iPod and drive a car" mentality that seems to be dominating, but it also creates a much more realistic quality to your designs, and I always love when stuff like that happens. When people don't just let something "happen to be there because it is", but they give it depth and a real-world thought process.
Also if I didn't only have a quarter in the bank right now I would so be asking for a Weremadillo design in this same fashion.

*flail* homg You are amazing. Wow - so excellent.
In echoing the thread up there, I really do love the way you mix animal and costume. I think at a meta level it's sort of a great stance on the furry community in general, a bunch of people masquerading as animals, identifying and associating with them and blending in different ways. And then of course, with this particular style of mask, there's the underlying allusion of consumption, as if its the animal possessing or about to feed on the human counterpart. Heh, I'm probably floating off into the stratosphere here with irrelevant art analysis, but I really do just love it, on all those levels.
And especially the core "zomg cute/disturbing" level.
This is absolutely amazing - I love the little vest he's got on and the double arms with the wings and the double legs. It really blurs the line about what's at the core and makes me want to figure out how the Zal child would move - which feet would it walk with, what would the other pair do, how would it dance~ eee so much fun.
Randomly, I also think the little claw toes on the human feet are adorable <_<
Thank you thank you! Heh, I think I got spoiled with my first art trade - you're wonderful!
