The thing that I liked about the 2005 version is that Violet and Mike were not punished for being a gum chewer and staring at the TV, but were punished for being only obsessed with winning and for being a dickhead with anger issues. (Although it’s weird that the original Oompa Loompa songs from the book about how it’s wrong to do those things made it into the film, but hey, my favorite moment from the film is how Danny Elfman made Mike’s song.)
