Background:
Rodney Rockwell is the son of former pro-wrestler Roy Rockwell Sr and retired female boxer Marcy Rockwell. When was 12, Rodney was taught how to defend himself and his younger siblings from bullies. At this time, his older brother Roy Jr began his fighting career and competed in the Hyper Festival, influencing young Rodney to follow in his footsteps. Three years later, Rodney began his career competing in various independent circuits until he made his Hyper Festival debut in 1988. However, Rodney wasn't really Grand Champion material, unlike Roy Jr, who became Grand Champion a year prior. He won his first match against Ronnie "The Wolf" Masters, but that was his only win. Rodney would job constantly to bigger and stronger fighters during his run. Later that year, Masters took Rodney under his wing, and Rodney became a member of Masters's stable, the White Fang. In 1989, Rodney faced new Grand Champion Benny Bronco in a timed match in which the loser had to leave the Hyper Festival. Rodney fought hard, but he ultimately lost, and had to leave the Festival. After leaving the Hyper Festival, Rodney met former Grand Champion and founder of the Outsider-style School of Kyojinken, Daisuke Nomizawa, who would become Rodney's teacher and mentor. Armed with knowledge of the muscle-expanding martial art, Rodney returned to the Hyper Festival in 1991, competed in the Grand Tournament, and became Grand Champion after defeating Benny Bronco. From 1991 to 1999, Rodney held on to that title, taking on the likes of Callista (now known as Callie Ursus), Thaddeus Rexinold, The Flying Scythe, Gosaburou Kusanagi, Alexander Ursus, and even Roy Jr. In 1995, Rodney defeated Thaddeus Rexinold, which was Rexinold's final match before retiring. This had angered newcomer Jove Martella, who defeated Rexinold by TKO a year prior, and at Hyper Festival 30, Rockwell and Martella would have their first match, which ended with Martella tapping out to Rockwell's "Pray For Death" Ankle Lock. From 1996 to 1999, Martella and Rockwell would constantly battle each other in some of the most bloodiest and brutal matches in Hyper Festival history. Their feud would end at Hyper Festival 33, where Martella gave Rockwell "the mother of all concussions" with a couple of punches to the skull, which made Martella Grand Champion. After his healing, Rodney wanted to return to the Hyper Festival to settle the score with Jove, but his doctor warned him not to, otherwise the next concussion from Martella would kill him. Rodney wouldn't listen to the doctor, but he was convinced by his then-girlfriend Angela. The next year, Rodney had retired from fighting and married Angela. In 2001, his son Rubin was born. He would teach little Rubin Kyojinken as a means of self-defense against bullies, and eventually, Rubin would be inspired to become Grand Champion after learning about his father's title reign. Nowadays, Rodney works as a mechanic at his own garage. Despite being broken, he still wishes to return to the Hyper Festival to reclaim his title. He's happy to know that Rubin wants to follow in his footsteps, so he decides to take on the role as Rubin's mentor. It's the closest thing to fighting, right?
