"Even for dragons, the world seems to get more complicated and more strange with the passing of time.
One second I was a carefree adolescent, with nothing better to do than eat barkworms and mate with pretty females. The next, I had memories from hundreds of lives in hundreds of times, each one experiencing the same thing: They become adults, they regain these very same memories. It's a strange experience, to suddenly become more than yourself. But I've already dealt with it hundreds of times. It's strange, to be so disoriented yet so sure. Sometimes it feels like I'm one with these other lives, sometimes I feel like something wholly different, with a bundle of bastard memories.
For a time, this did disturb me, but life moved on. I found a wonderful mate, fathered two clutches of eggs, and became chief of Saeva. Life was very good, but it could not remain this way. My life has meaning beyond that of an ordinary dragon, and I have to find it.
I left my old life behind. I heard of the devastating consequences that followed, and of the prosperity that followed that. I don't regret my choice, but I am ashamed that I took it without preparing for any consequences. I can only hope that my family is okay, and doesn't regard me with hatred." - Aeon Saeva
