This weekend I went to the local shooting club outdoor range to find someone broke the falling plate target array. This 6mm steel plate had been snapped off. Someone used centerfire rifle ammo. Probably M43 type by the spent casings. Club officials were notified.

A bottle-neck cartridge is usually more powerful than a straight-walled cartridge. Centerfire rifle shells are more powerful than pistol caliber. I'm surprised a hole wasn't punched clean through. These are designed to fall backwards when hit. A rimfire is weak and must impact at the top of the plate to affect it.
