Ultimate review of Wacom Cintiq Pro 16, no praise [VID]
Review itself is here - https://youtu.be/dRBq1efmQHE
FINALLY I'VE GOT IT DONE. ULTIMATELY.
I'm fed up with lying reviews of Wacom products. Really, i used to like their devices, but now... it simply became a necessary measure, not a pleasant purchase. Hence this video exists now.
English subtitles are at your service, you can easily enjoy my blabbering. And i know this is content not really for everyone (too specific, long and not pr0n), but i tried to make it fun, spectacular AND useful at the same time. So please, try to watch it, it really took me A LOT of time and efforts to get it all done. And so far feedback was almost 100% positive, but i'm opened for critique ^^
Please do so and spread this vid among your artist-friends. Non-artists too, the video is non-artists friendly as much as possible ^^ Thanks for your patience, i just HAD to do it, really.
Now it's the time to stop thinking i'm a YouTube blogger and return to dragon cocks drawing... Updates soonish!
You can say thanks here, as always - https://www.patreon.com/karukuji

Come on, pay for 400+ watchers channel? So reasonable xD
But yeah, frankly speaking, i'm really tired of watching reviews that telling you nothing but "everything is awesome, just go and buy it already, what are you waiting for?!", then you go and buy it and when it works not as good as it supposed to be, you're timidly saying to yourself like "well, maybe later it will get better, maybe i'm doing something wrong... reviewers said it's awesome...". Nope. I have things to complain about and i will sound them. I work with such devices daily after all, i want those to be decent and flaws-free, at least serious ones.
Thanks for watching <3

I watched the review and it makes me giggle, there are so many things Wacom failed with this product.
I know struggles with WACOM products even with my Intuos Pro M (PTH-651) to make it work "better" with SAI Version 1 or SAI Version 2 Technical Preview. Wacom doesn't ship a GUI to define gestures for applications, like which key stroke your application should get if you use the zoom gesture, etc. If you are skilled enough you can edit the %PROGRAMFILES%\Tablet\Wacom\AppGestures.xml file to add a support for a new application. You can find various application settings inside this file, like Adobe and Corel products, MS applications and even web browsers. It's not meant to be edited, you need to restart Windows to apply the changes and will be replaced with every driver update.
The touch driver (a process on the user's side) might crash, resulting in a memory leak for various versions, it fills up your RAM and make your system unusable or even crash it (cause no RAM is left free). I have plenty of RAM, 32GB, I have enough time to kill the driver process after crashing before it fills up my RAM.
One the thing I strongly recommend: Make backups of your tablet settings, if you get a driver update it might reset your settings. In general, backups are nice to prevent data loss.
So, is it better to use tablets from other manufacturers like Huion, GAOMON or XP-Pen? I think not, Wacom is still the only manufacturer that have a pen without cable or batteries.

Yeah, i remember there may be such issue with SAI, but (fortunately for myself) i don't work with this software. I think it's quite obsolete and developers must first polish it at least to the condition of Clip Studio Paint, especially about interface. It's my opinion, but it hasn't been changed since my first try of SAI something around 9 years ago already x) I tried it later as well, but... nope, just nope for me~
Huh... About the memory leak it's something new ._. Never faced this myself, but i also have plenty of RAM myself (24GB), so can't really tell, maybe it happened before without my notice.
About the tablet settings backups - that i already am aware of x) As you could see in my review i named that problem with sudden settings self-destructions that may occur.
And yeah, Huion now also has models without batteries in pens. But still no freaking 4k display. If there was a model with 4k i'd have really considered buying one >.>

SAI Version 1 is obsolete, but not SAI Version 2. SAI (both versions combined) is popular among furry artists, but it's just a little player among a lot of programs.
It's a question of which tool you like and which features you need. I rather like small programs which do things perfectly than big programs with a lot of complexity, features I never use and bugs.
For me Clip Studio Paint looks like they have cloned the GUI of Adobe Photoshop. SAI's GUI is not that bad IMHO. I've seen much more worse GUIs as software developer.
btw. the memory leak only happens if the touch function crashes. I used my tablet with the touch function as mouse replacement for a long time and run into this issue at least every 1-3 days.

After much consideration, I've come to my conclusion. I'll take the pretty blue dragon shown here in this picture above, along with the red and blue dragons located on your desk instead of the tablet. :3
Couple of thing I liked in the video: The wing transitions. Calling hands paws. x)

Excellent editing and presentation, and BANG ON about all this issues!!!
BLOODY hell I wish I had seen this before I bought my Cintiq 16 Pro! Every last one, I mean every last damn one of the things you mentioned is true.
The pen works great as I expected and as it does on my Cintiq 24 Pro. I can handle the cursor problems at edges of screen(tho at these price points its really B.S.!).
The touch gesture/driver issues is what really really pisses me off. I specifically bought the Pro 16 for the touch (I got spoiled with my Samsung Note with Autodesk Sketchbook and the fluidity of the pinch/zoom/rotate gestures). I have 3 iMacs (2015 Retina with 4770k, 2012 27" & 21"), a MacBook pro (2013), and 5 Windows computers (everything from and old i3 machine to i7 6800k with 128GB ram and Evo Plus 970). The issue is def not hardware or speed, I tried on all budget levels. I tried multiple versions of operating systems old and new (Win7,8, 10, macOS Mountain Lion, El Capitan, Sierra, High Sierra, Catalina) , and most of the driver releases. There are nearly 30 drivers for Windows, and nearly 30 for macOS. I found the older drivers to work best... None satisfy all of my needs tho. I mainly use Clip Studio Paint EX, Autodesk Sketchbook, Sai, Photoshop (CS6, 2017-2020) to name a few. I DO NOT RECOMMEND CATALINA, as there are multiple issues that Wacom/Apple have yet to address.
*Sai is totally incompatible with the 16 Pro... I tried modifying the gestures xml file, and many other things... but it just REFUSES to have any touch functionality. Honestly though I expected this, as the creator just historically doesn't update their app...
*Autodesk works beautifully, but only with very old drivers. Newer drivers give you pen only drawing (so no accidental drawing from fingers or etc) but they get super buggy/laggy with the pinch/zoom/rotate touch gestures, as well as pen lag. This was even on my fastest machines...
*older drivers play hell with CSP EX, and again modding the gestures xml file has no effect. There is no pen only operation on some older versions...The latest version (1.97) seems to work the best so far. So many many times the touch gesture detection lags before detecting... and you end up with accidental drawing marks from your finger. Newer drivers seemed to nullify this some, but it still is an issue. 1.97 with Wintab off fixed this. The biggest annoyance is YOU CANNOT PINCH/ZOOM/ROTATE all at once. Only one thing works at a time... Autodesk lets you do all three simultaneously, which is a MUCH more pleasant drawing workflow experience. When you go to pan, panning to the right always seems to work, but to pan left... you must first pan to the right a tiny bit and then you can pan left. Its almost as if the gesture to pan left isn't recognised. I am not sure if it is a operating system issue... I know in macOS I had to go into the Wacom tablet control panel and under touch, disable the Notification Centre option. On Win10Pro, I had to go into CSP preferences, and select Tablet PC option instead of Wintab.
*Photoshop mostly was okay, but just like CSP, the pinch/zoom/rotate gestures only work one at a time. It really is such a degraded drawing workflow experience.
Then the stupid USB-C cable nonsense... Should of just had MD port and HDMI connectors on the Cintiq itself... and it would be nice if they did it like how the 24 pro is... where they are resessed on the rear and can be covered/protected with a plate. I'm so afraid of damaging them because they are on the side... The smaller size and wanting to be more portable (like sitting in a lunge chair or bed drawing) was another reason I got the smaller 16... But the cables coming from the sides really sucks.
The fan(s?) on the Cintiq 16 Pro are annoying, and def audible. The "stand" (if you even wanna call it that) sucks, the angle is not enough. Even when portable sitting in bed or chair, the pop out legs do not prop the unit up enough. About the only good they are for, is providing a gap between my pillow for fan airflow. The Cintiq WILL get warm if fans are blocked.
In the end, it sure as hell isn't worth the $1500USD+ price. Its even more expensive if your not stateside :( I had been considering that newest 16 model offered by XP-Pen... but opted for the Cintiq Pro 16 because of the touch. Cant turn back now, only can let others be known of these problems.
A big thanks to you for the unpainted, unblissful, truthful review!

Oh, wow~ Thanks for such a detailed reply ^^ It's good that i can at least prevent some disappointing purchases with this review, especially knowing more and more info about unsatisfied customers who got this tablet, hoping for top notch experience, but instead they got this... Just like me =\
So you say even on MacOS it is not so smooth neither? I really hoped that at least for Mac users they did something nice, but damn... Sounds like Wacom totally went down some completely wrong track since times of their Cintiq Companion 2...
I'm hoping to sell my Cintiq Pro 16 this year, honestly >.> Somehow...

Your welcome *^^*
Yep, even with macOS I had issues. Catalina has some that Wacom finally admitted to (but have yet to fix), and was the worst. It is mostly driver issues. I had about the same experience on different flavours of macOS. Using different releases of drivers fixed some things and made others worse.
There was no happy everything on any system however. No matter what version of drivers.
I had started with Windows 7 first. Then tested 10. I then did mac (reckoning that *surely* all would be golden)... only to be dismayed and infuriated.
I dont know what the hell is up with Wacom, but its like they have thier head up thier arse.
Just makes me mad... The pinch/zoom/rotate on my mobile is such an awesome fluidity and experience whilst drawing...I just wish I could have the same with the Cintiq.
I wish you luck on your sale mate. I will prob end up just keeping mine, as the pen mostly works as it did on my 24 pro, and the screen size is perfect. The 24 is just too big. I hope Wacom can fix their drivers. Maybe Apple/Microsoft can work with them to resolve it...
