So...About Last Night
One could hardly blame her, the way his ears flushed red when he was embarrassed, just like they did now, it overcame her natural modesty, and for his end of it, she was just the smartest thing and something about her brown eyes just felt different than other brown eyes. Isn't this how it usually happens? You never see it coming. And all the same, with the dreams you have throughout the night while you're tossing and turning together, it's easy to think the whole thing was just your midnight imagination until you both wake up, side by side, just after eight. She always was just a little more bold, she could look right at him now...so long as he didn't look back. With little more than an "um..." and a "heh..." between them, it seemed mutually agreed that they would have an awkward breakfast together. Quiet, very quiet, stealing glances when they could. This was silly, he was the most handsome mouse she'd ever seen and just because they spent a little time together overnight now she can't even look at him for two seconds without her eyes darting away with a squeaky, nervous giggle. He wasn't faring any better, twiddling his fingers in between reminding himself how warm she was.
Being a mouse was just so...mousey, sometimes. But what could you do, at least it was the weekend, they'd have all day to get used to seeing each other again, this time with the knowledge of what had taken place. It might take a little while but that didn't mean they couldn't enjoy each other's company. Maybe when it got dark again they'd have an easier time, when they could shut off all the lights and just listen to each other. After all, he did have the cutest little squeak.
