Recently found this image on a British Air Museum site. This is Jeep--the coyote mascot who flew five combat missions in a P-47 Thunderbolt during WW2 with his owner, "Wild Bill" Crump.

I found a story behind Jeep and it was an interesting read. He was buried with honers I understand.

It was on line and I found it with a google search. I think I looked for: coyote P-47 combat missions Wild Bill Crump. I remember looking at a few sites before finding it. You may try: coyote buried with military honers.

If you like animal mascot stories during war there's Wojtek, a brown bear who "fought" with a Polish brigade and took part in the Battle of Monte Cassino Italy.

Oh, no! I just read the blurb on Jeep's history and learned he was safer in the air (in combat, no less) than he was on the ground! Poor little guy. At least he rec'd honors when laid to rest. *salutes, w/coyote howl* ^ô^

He rode into combat in the most powerful fighter plane in the US arsenal at the time. Almost got to sit in one just like it.
