The Milwaukee Road Minnehaha depot sits awaiting trains that won't come. Built in 1875 this depot had the nickname of the Princess Depot on the Milwaukee Road, dispatchers actually referred to it as such when the line it was on was still active. It's a real treat to look at with all the gingerbread accents. The last big thing for this depot was the American Freedom Train which sat on the siding while it was stopped in Minneapolis.
Originally shot on Kodak Gold 400ASA with a non-descript Kodak 'point and shoot'. Then re-shot RAW at 100ASA. Colour curves were used in Photoshop to correct negative orange cast and then inverted. Then brought into Aperture for further tweaks.

PURPLE???
But MILW never painted their depots like this. AAaaaaaaargh! It buuuuuurns!
Grey- no problem. That's classic MILW. If you want to go colorful, then marooon, orange, and black. Nice colors for passenger consists. But PURPLE??
Keep them away from my happy NPRY or else Raymond Loewy will start spinning in his grave.

Yah, I've no idea what colours they settled on and why. I don't recall the colour being this bright when I took it but it's possible the colour negative I converted this from is shifting a bit. The other shot I have on this roll but didn't use looks like the same shade. I doubt it was even painted when it was built and probably sat in it's natural wood for a while before it got some paint. :)
I'm wagering it's sun faded badly. Images I looked up last evening have these window covers painted a rich red maroon.
As for Milwaukee depots being gray, i can recall three examples from the late 70's right off the top of my head that were white and black trim iterations. Hopkins MN, Tomah WI and Buffalo Lake MN.
