Hey there everybody! After Halloween and Thanksgiving I was kinda burned out... but managed to pull together a little something for Christmas~
Here we have a little pre-Christmas (yes I know I'm posting it ON Christmas, that's besides the point) between Petie and his (slighty) bigger, grumpier, and more jaded cousin Barry~ What exactly are the two bear cubs getting up to? How can a grumpy like Barry get into the Christmas spirit? Read to find out! =D
I thought this'd be a fun chance to explore a little of Barry's character since he's one of my better developed but underused kids... so hope you enjoy this sweet little view into his mentality =3
Anyway please fav & comment and have a Merry Christmas! =D

"I… I thought you said you weren't gonna get me a present?"
"Eh, changed my mind brat."
"… thank you."
"No. Hugs."
It was an unusual scene. Winter was settling in on Viridian and the local parks were dressed white under a blanket of snow. Not enough for there to be children enjoying it (it needed a few more inches before that point) but just enough to discourage people from taking any of the parks more scenic routes. Nestled on a bench along one of these scenic routes were two bear cubs… the larger currently in the process of planting his paw on the side of the smaller ones face and holding him at bay to prevent any unwanted hugs.
The larger bear cub was dressed to remind anybody who happened to spot him that ice types didn't care about the cold. Wearing some rock bands T shirt and a pair of worn jeans the red haired cubchoo looked like a short gradeschooler trying to act cool and indifferent despite his cute looks. The other bear cub looked properly, adorably, dressed for his age. Dressed in thick snow pants and a hooded jacket (with build in pouches to cover his ears) the teddiursa was probably supposed to be in daycare… but anybody looking would assume he had his big brother chaperoning him so it was probably okay.
Petie, the 14 year old teddiursa, pouted as he shooed Barry's paw away from his cheek. "Come on, at least let me thank you." he whined, furiously rubbing where the cold paw had smushed his face. "No." Barry, the 18 year old chubchoo, said flatly as he stretched a little on the park bench before finally deciding to look at his little cousin "Well? Open it." He said, gesturing to the wrapped Christmas present sitting next to Petie. "But… it's not Christmas yet." was Petie's reply… as Barry facepalmed and sighed softly.
"No, you're not putting that under the tree." Barry said flatly "Open it here and now, where I can explain it to you."
"… okay, but why? First you say you're not gonna give me a present then you tell me to meet you here and give me one?" Petie asked, tilting his head as he looked at his usually stoic and grumpy cousin "What's going on?"
"… nuthin. Just felt like it." Barry grunted as he refused to meet his little cousins eyes. He knew Petie wasn't observant enough to tell but he didn't wanna give away he was lying out his butt.
Barry really wasn't big on Christmas as far as the whole super special holiday angle went. His family didn't have enough relatives nearby to make it a big family get together OR enough spare cash just lying around to make it a big event… and as he'd gotten older and more cynical due to his condition the whole feel-good theme of the celebration had grated on him more and more. The fact one of the few part time jobs he could get was as Santa's elf at the mall just made it worse for him…
So the idea of celebrating it with his little cousin and his whole warm and loving and sickeningly sweet and close family had left the cubchoo cold (horrible pun very much intentional). At least until Francis and Michael found out and read him the riot act over it, with special attention paid to the fact Petie looked up to him. While Barry had no clue WHY this was the case and SERIOUSLY questioned Petie's judgement skills over it… he couldn't deny they had a point. Which had unfortunately led to the one thing Barry hated most of all, even more than his looks and handicaps.
He'd ended up feeling guilty about the whole thing. Barry HATED feeling guilty about stuff. If he cared about things (like kids being bullied) then he felt compelled to do something about it. If he didn't do something about it he felt guilty, and guilt huuuurt for him. It gnawed away at him. So he tried to head the whole thing off by simply not caring. The fact he kept failing at that and doing the "Right Thing" was a constant source of aggravation for him…
So here he sat, giving his little cousin a Christmas gift because the little brat looked up to him for god knows what reason and not doing SOMETHING to celebrate the holidays with him would hurt the cub. All because his stupid best friends reminded him of all this… if Francis wasn't a fire type and immune to it he'd freeze their mattresses solid in payback, but that was for later. Dealing with Petie's reaction to his present was for right now.
Petie meanwhile was struggling to unwrap his present… mostly because his big cousin had done such a bad job wrapping it. The wrapping paper was actually making it kind of hard to get open. Not that the teddiursa cared. He was too curious about what could possibly be inside for it to bother him. Finally the tattered, taped mess of wrapping paper and ribbon was peeled away revealing a fairly normal looking cardboard box with a lid. A lid Petie lingered over for a moment, briefly worry about what might be inside… until Barry gave an impatient "Get on with it" cough and the bear cub quickly popped the lid off.
And stared in confusion at "Potty & Me, a Guide for Big Kids to Be" as the cartoon illustration of a pichu toddler, training pants around their ankles as the sat proudly on the training potty, smiled back. With a kind of confused numbness he lifted it out of the box and confirmed that yes, it was one of those thick, cardboard paged picture books you gave to little kids and yes it was a book encouraging them (in rhyme no less) to use the potty like big kids. A small part of him was glad it was a pichu as the main character (he mentally apologized to Andrew for that) and not a teddiursa since he'd seen more humiliating kids books with teddiursa as the stars than he could count…
A larger part of him wondered "What the heck? Is this a gag gift?" even though he didn't say it aloud. He knew his cousin wasn't mean enough to seriously give him something like this… right? Barry was always grumpy, sarcastic, and stuff like that… but he'd never been actually mean to Petie. If Petie had needed help and Barry had been around or he ran into him his cousin had always helped him… even if he grumbled every step of the way. This wasn't serious his Christmas gift, was it?
Given the cubchoo a lost, forlorn look Petie blinked in surprise as Barry tapped the book while looking him dead in the eyes. "Your obnoxious big sis said you're having some trouble potty training one of the times she chased me down and forced me to listen to how things were going at your house. Some joke or something about frowny faces on your potty chart." Petie opted not to correct Barry about whether that was a joke or not as his cousin continued"So I thought I'd give you this book as a little message…" Barry paused for emphasis and took a deep breath "Keep. Trying." he said with a solemn, serious tone as he tapped the cardboard book with each word.
Petie responded by just staring blankly since the thought had never occurred to him that this could mean anything more than teasing about his undies. "Told ya I needed to explain it." Barry said, sounding almost smug about it, before shifting back to the serious tone "But anyway I mean it, keep trying." the cubchoo leaned back on the bench again and tried to look casual "Took me forever to work up to big kid undies… but I made it, so I KNOW you can do it. Got it? … I said got it- NO HUGS." and the paw was on Petie face again as he flailed his arms in the air between them, pouting and trying not to tear up.
Petie wasn't quite sure how to say it but hearing that from somebody who could relate to his problem meant a LOT to him. So all his confusion and embarrassment had turned to teary eyed gratitude at hearing Barry saying he was confident Petie could do it despite every sign (at least as far as Petie could tell) was pointing to the Teddiursa being in diapers forever. Of course the only way he COULD think to express it earned him the grumpy bear strong-arm… but despite the paw squashing his cheek he managed to lisp out "T-th-thank y-you, d-dis means a-awot…"
"No hugs and no waterworks, didn't spend an hour finding a book that DIDN'T have a teddiursa on the cover just to have you blubber like a baby all over it." Barry humphed, finally removing his paw from Petie's face before looking away "'sides… got you a real gift too, it was under the book." he added, Petie noting and struggling not to giggle at the hint of embarrassment in his cousins tone.
Instead he dug into the box and tugged at what he'd assumed was some dark grey cloth filler to keep the book from bouncing around. To his surprised as he pulled it out it revealed itself to be a dark grey hoodie in his size. No childish logos, no pastel colors, no numbers or alphabet print… just on those factors alone it had to be one of the best clothing presents he could ever remember getting. "Turn it over" commented, still refusing to look at Petie as the teddiursa complied… and let out a soft gasp at the familiar logo plastered across the hoodies back.
"Recognize this?" Barry asked, chuckling as he pointed to the recreation of he duskull mask Petie had seen tattooed across his cousins back "Thought you deserved some less babyish clothes and remembered you'd said how cool my tattoo was so I found a place that custom prints this kinda stuff." stretching his arms and not even bother to hide his grin Barry continued "Yep, consider this a reminder… DON'T do what I did. A cool tattoo ain't worth not being able to sit down for a few weeks, trust me on that. Settle for the hoodie instead. Not having my baby bro repeat my mista-"
Barry clapped a paw over his mouth two and a half words too late before grinding out a "Damn it." as no amount of strongarm was fast enough to stop Petie this time. Doing everything he could NOT to look at the teddiursa currently giving his middle the death hug Barry tried to pretend he wasn't blushing as he gave his little cousin a reluctant one armed returned hug. "Love you big bro~" Petie all but gurgled out, sounding way too happy to EVERY let Barry live that one down. "Yeah yeah, love you too bra-" pausing to look around and make sure there was nobody around to hear (the reason he'd made Petie come all the way out to the park for this) Barry sighed "Love you too baby bro."
Barry rolled his eyes as Petie giggled happily at that, holding the hug for few moments longer before trying to remove the cub from his side "That's your hug for the day, now leggo. Let. Go." he grumbled as he managed to snag the back of Petie's jacket and pull him off… before noticing the teasing grin on Petie's face. He was almost proud of the smug, troublemaking look his baby bro was giving him… up until Petie spoke.
"So I get one hug a day?"
"… don't push it brat."
"Love you too big bro~"
The End.

Well, once it was days before Christmas, I was going to act in a play that interpreted a biblical event, so my mother woke me up very, very early, so early that when I got dressed, she said not to take off my sleepwear , but I would leave it underneath the one in the play, plus that "sleepwear" was a footed sleeper, so I did that, we were in the place already, we got off, the truth is that when I was already acting in the play There was one or the other that spoke badly, out of nowhere, something strange happens, I can't stand the urge and I pee on myself. After what happened I had to run to the car to change or something, so I did, but I saw part of my "footed sleeper" and more than one classmate saw that I was using it, it was distressing ... I returned home in the rear, only with the sleeper.
